Matt Perrine & Sunflower City “Bayou Road Suite” Project

Born in Sacramento CA, Matt Perrine began his musical career at the age of 10, playing trombone in his school band. At the age of 11 he began playing tuba with his first Dixieland band. By 12 he had taken up the electric bass and by 15 he picked up the acoustic bass and begun composing his own pieces, as well as writing big band arrangements.

Since arriving in New Orleans in 1992, Matt has crossed many musical boundaries. A triple threat, excelling on upright bass, acoustic bass and sousaphone, his reputation as a consummate musician has opened doors into almost every genre in the New Orleans musical arena. On electric bass, his has worked with The Fifth Dimension, Paul Sanchez’s Rolling Road Show, Sista Teedy and Cool Riddums and Aaron and Charles Neville. He is a first call jazz player on upright bass with world-renowned artists like Ellis and Branford Marsalis, Lillian and John Boutté, Kermit Ruffins and Leigh “Li’l Queenie” Harris. His work on the sousaphone with bands such as the New Orleans Nightcrawlers, Bonerama, OK-Go, The Indigo Girls, Pete Fountain, Better Than Ezra and Bruce Hornsby has garnered him much attention.

In 2007, Matt released his first solo record, Sunflower City, featuring a who’s-who of New Orleans finest musicians. It was nominated for Album of the Year by Gambit Magazine. Threadhead Records is proud to be a part of the newest project by one of New Orleans most versatile musicians.
