As the leader of the Original Tuxedo Jazz Band, the oldest continually performing jazz band in history, Bob French has continued to record and travel worldwide, spreading the best of traditional New Orleans Jazz. Originally led by Oscar “Papa” Celestin and later by French’s father, Albert “Papa” French, Bob took over the band’s leadership role in 1977.
As a child Bob took drumming lessons from Louis Barbarin. He organized a R&B band in high school that included James Booker, Art Neville, Charles Neville, Kidd Jordan and Alvin Batiste. In the 1960’s he recorded with Earl King and Fats Domino. He has also played and
recorded with Dave Bartholomew.
The new CD will commemorate the 100th anniversary of the founding of The Original Tuxedo Jazz Band. Threadhead Records is thrilled and honored to be involved with this project.
