Chip Wilson, singer/songwriter and guitar virtuoso, has decades of performance experience in New Orleans, the US, Europe and South America. That experience and Chip’s own musical curiosity has led him to develop an extensive repertoire in several styles, performing a mix of classic and original American music: jazz, blues, folk, country, R & B and funk.
Wilson has performed or recorded with Grammy Winners Charles Neville, Leroy Preston and Michael Ray, as well as with New Orleans R & B legends George Porter, Tommy Ridgely, Oliver Morgan, Erving Charles, Jr, Eddie Bo and Ernie K-Doe. Offbeat Award Winner and W. C. Handy Award nominee Mem Shannon is featured on two of Chip’s CDs. Other musical partners include Tony Markellis (Trey Anastasio Band, Paul Butterfield, Kilimanjaro), Sean Harkness (Windham Hill, Jimmy Norman from The Drifters), Broadway theatre orchestras), and Jeff Haynes (Pat Metheny, Cassandra Wilson, Lizz Wright, Martin Scorsese’s The Blues).
Constantinople, Wilson’s most recent CD was recorded and produced by the dynamic and talented Grant Curry, continues the solo framework for much of the album, now in a folk vein. This time, though, three non-original songs are included, all dating from the 1800s: Stephen Foster’s “Hard Times”, the fiddle tune “Fiddler A Dram” and an old Mississippi River levee town song, “Bully Of The Town”. Chip said, “I started out playing folk music, and more than forty years later, I realize that is what I do best.”
Award-winning singer/songwriter and actor Jesse Moore honed his musical craft in the bars, clubs and festivals of New Orleans, and on stages around the world. With his first CD, The Hoodoo Man, as a calling card, Jesse Moore introduced himself to New Orleans long ago and has never looked back. His original songs and unique voice caught the attention of fans city-wide, and Jesse began spreading his brand of roots rock in the music clubs of New Orleans.
In 2005, his release of More Than Life Itself, was lauded as “One of the Top 10 CD’s of the year,” by The Times-Picayune and Tom Morgan of WWOZ Radio noted, “…a grand collaboration with some of New Orleans’ best songwriters and musicians.” The CD included an acoustic and classic rock version of Anders Osborne and J. Ragsdale’s” It’s Gonna Be OK”, and during a broadcast of TV 4′s Eyewitness News on WWL, reporter Eric Paulsen commented, “(the song)…should be the official post-Katrina anthem.”
Originally, this project was to be a solo CD for Moore but has evolved into a Wilson and Moore collaboration. This project, produced by Anders Osborne, is titled Side By Side and is set for release June, 25 2010. Threadhead Records is pleased to be able to support this latest endeavor by two of New Orleans’ most talented performers.
